WHAT THE SAFETY CLASS IS FOR
I view the safety course as an event that began as a perfect way for family members to get to know what that new piece of hardware that dad brought home was all about. Mom and dad were quick to sit everyone down at the table with the new firearm and go over the necessary safety requirements.
This process enabled each member of the family to learn respect for handling the new firearm because the lesson was carried out in the sober and caring manner of the home setting.
This was the occasion where the novice learned how to pick up the handgun; where to and not to point one; how this new addition to the home environment differed from the others in the house; the proper way to match the ammunition to the pistol; and how to clean and store the firearm.
Each family member both learned and reviewed the proper handling, in order to make certain that no innocent person’s life was threatened while using the new piece of hardware. The process of learning firearm safety is so essential—whether at home or in a classroom. And every minute spent in this endeavor is truly worthwhile. Now we ask: Is this really all you need to know when it comes to using the pistol to defend your life ?
WHAT A SIMPLE SAFETY CLASS DOES NOT TEACH
There is a lot more to handling a pistol than learning how “not” to shoot someone with it accidentally. The firearm is a tool. Its specific purpose is to assist the user in eliminating an unfriendly aggressor’s threat. In order to derive the most benefit out of utilizing this tool, one needs to know how to operate it quickly and efficiently. Performing with the firearm is what really matters. And that is not what “safety” classes accomplish.
Much to my dismay, I find that there are many ranges; gun show operators; gun dealers; and borderline “instructors” who don’t consider the real goal of training students who are going to carry pistols-
SAFETY PUT INTO PERSPECTIVE
Just consider, for a moment, a pilot at the controls of a jet fighter. Nearly every motion he or she makes in taking off, flying to the site of the battle, setting up to engage in warfare, and landing again at home base, must be carried out in a safe fashion.
But the focus of the pilot must always be on the mission. Totally expert in the war-
The fight involves taking control of the battle in a very assertive way, and initiating extremely violent action in order to kill the enemy. That is the only way to emerge the victor of the event. Yes, it must all be accomplished in the least risky, but most aggressive manner possible.
THE NATURE OF A FIGHT SCENE
The scene of an assault/defense event is never a “safe” place for any player. And it is, most often, a lot more dangerous for the victim than for the perpetrator. This is due primarily, to two reasons. First, the element of surprise favors the threat. Second, the victim most often, does not respond in a quick, proper, and aggressive fashion.
If you should ever find yourself in a situation where the bad guy has assigned you the role of victim, you simply must be prepared to repel the attack in a more effective way than the assailant is presenting. In order to accomplish this, you must act with speed, efficiency, and with extreme violence. If you are properly trained, you have a good chance of turning the tables on the bad guy.
THE ATTITUDE AT SHOOTSTARFIRE
Ultimately, our objective is to teach the student to respond rapidly and in the proper fashion when confronted by the shock created by the speed and violence dealt out by the bad guy in a typical criminal assault. But we also recognize that folks view things differently. Everyone doesn’t want to be trained to be a battle hardened Blackwater Contractor, or Ninja Warrior. Experience has taught us that it is best to offer different levels of pistol training.
We will work with you in helping to select the platform best suited to your needs. All you need to do is to bring the attitude that you will not willingly surrender to a threat, and we will work at helping you to secure that one essential that will serve you well the rest of your life—CONFIDENCE. That will come with knowledge you acquire and the set of skills you to take with you through the rest of your life. For more information on courses, click “COURSE OFFERINGS” on our menu.
